Press Release (PressBurner) Nov 25, 2010 - Bhopal, MP - In a star studded ceremony the 12th Mumbai Film Festival Event was opened by Manoj Kumar, Ramesh Sippy and Chairman of MAMI Shyam Benegal! Current Bollywood actors such as Minisha Lamba, Ranvir Shorey, Satish Kaushik and Prem Chopra also graced the occasion. Also present at the event was the talented film-maker Sudhir Mishra.
The 12th Mumbai Film Festival boasts of an all-women jury, headed by Oscar winning Hollywood filmmaker Jane Campion and well-known names like Indian actress-director Suhasini Ratnam. Accompanying Campion will be four internationally-celebrated panellists - British filmmaker Tanya Seghatchian, head of the Film Fund at the UK Film Council, Iranian filmmaker Samira Makhmalbaf, and South Korean actress Yoon Jeong-Hee.
When asked about his views on the film festival, Sudhir Mishra said, "You know it's a conference of professionals. You meet other professionals, you interact, you learn! These are the things that help cinema in a very different and intangible manner. It's an environment for young people, for assistants, for people like us to learn a lot from each other." The shimmering lady in white, Minisha Lamba who wore a flowing low-cut white gown to the event said that she was very excited with the film festival and looked forward to watching 'The Social Network'.
Bollywood comedian Satish Kaushik said, "It's a culmination of different cultures, directors from different countries coming together, their stories, and their characters. This film festival provides a great platform for all of us to meet, share and learn from each other." The son of the motherland, Manoj Kumar was acknowledged for his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema by awarding him the Lifetime Achievement Award at the film festival along with Hollywood legend Oliver Stone. Manoj Kumar was highly obliged and said, "This is a very proud moment for me and I feel proud of the Mumbai Film Festival. This is a very strong and positive step ahead, because the world has recognised Indian cinema and its a proud moment for every Indian."
