Dupont Hospital for Children advances quality care for pediatric education with EMS simulation technology

Dupont Hospital for Children has selected Education Management Solutions’ (EMS) simulation management technology for its Nemours Center for Simulation Education. The Center, initiated and run by nurses, now provides education to all members of the healthcare team, including physicians, nursing students, medical students, and respiratory therapists.

Although Nemours has designated space for simulation, the majority of simulation conducted occurs in patient care areas where staff can work in their own settings with their own equipment. A typical scenario would involve nurses and other staff restoring a high-tech infant simulator’s vital signs after an ambulance rushed it to the emergency room. Simulation Coordinator and the Center’s founder, Heather Sobolewski, MSN, RN-BC, finds realistic, hands-on training the most effective tool in healthcare education.

Sobolewski says, “With the addition of EMS’ SIMXpress, we will be able to provide a more detailed debriefing to our students by videotaping in places we were unable to in the past. It also enables us to start participating in more research studies because the data is indexed and easily accessible.” Sobolewski is excited that the portability and wireless capabilities of SIMXpress provides them with a complete simulation management solution on wheels. In addition, it allows for evaluating learners’ team communication and skills performance.
