Maya Keel elected as chairperson of the Gauteng Welfare Social Services Development Forum
Maya Keel, the Executive Director of Coach, has been elected as chairperson of the Gauteng Welfare Social Services Development Forum.
The Forum represents the majority of the NPO (non-profit organisation) sector in Gauteng.
Press Release (PressBurner) May 12, 2010 - Coach operates innovative children’s homes, family preservation, and ABET programmes for disadvantaged and troubled children. It employs a staff of 42. Of these 22 are registered development professionals. Coach operates two children’s homes as well as a well regarded “Life Campus”. 65 children and young people are direct beneficiaries of its programmes with a further 1500 indirect beneficiaries each year.
Maya has a long record of social activism, starting in her student days. She has been involved in the establishment of an innovative HIV/AIDS programme for children and serves on the boards of Kids Haven and Big Shoes. She is also chairperson, or an active member, of several other forums representing the welfare sector.
Maya says “I am honoured to have been elected as chairperson of the Gauteng Forum. We need to continue a close and determined engagement with government to ensure the best interests of the beneficiaries of our NPO activities continue to enjoy the financial and wider government support that they merit”.
