Press Release (PressBurner) Jul 12, 2009 - Los Angeles, CA  -  Stephen Larsen, PhD, award-winning author and Psychology Professor Emeritus from SUNY Ulster, New York, will be interviewed on the Online with Andrea radio program on Blog Talk Radio at blogtalkradio.com/onlinewithandrea, Monday, July 13, 2009 at 4:30 p.m. PT, and 7:30 pm ET, for two hours, about some of the ideas put forth in his latest book The Fundamentalist Mind: How Polarized Thinking Imperils Us All (Quest Books).  The book won Foreword Magazine’s Best of the Year Award, and two silver Nautilus Awards 2009 in the psychology and religion categories.

In the first hour Dr. Larsen will provide a glimpse into the psychology, neurology and mythology of fundamentalism and its pervasive and destructive patterns of thought.  His investigations conclude that when human beings recognize these patterns in themselves, they can free themselves for a new beginning.

The second hour will include a discussion of Stephen Larsen’s mentor and friend, mythologist Joseph Campbell.   Robin Larsen, Stephen Larsen’s wife, and with whom he co-wrote the Joseph Campbell biography A Fire in the Mind, will join the interview during the second hour.  The radio show call in number is (347)426-3895.

Radio host Andrea Garrison produces her weekly two-hour program, Online with Andrea, on Internet radio at Blog Talk Radio.  Topics on her program include explorations of “health, fitness, body, mind, heart, soul, spirit, the spoken word, art, music, dance, theater, film, the environment, planet earth, and beyond.”  Garrison is also the author of the highly praised book The Crossing Over of Mattie Pearl, also available on CD and DVD.

When Dr. Larsen was on the faculty at Ulster, 1968-1996, he directed a program in consciousness studies and biofeedback that gave students a hands-on opportunity to train themselves and to research the health benefits of biofeedback.  In 1990 he opened Stone Mountain Counseling, PC, for psychotherapy, biofeedback and training where he continues to serve as its director.

In addition to The Fundamentalist Mind, Dr. Larsen, a highly respected pioneer in the use of neurofeedback for anxiety, depression, pain, and trauma from injuries, wrote the widely acclaimed The Healing Power of Neurofeedback: The Revolutionary LENS Method for Restoring Optimal Brain Function (2006).  He also wrote The Shaman’s Doorway, the Mythic Imagination.
