Do you know a great unsigned band that hasn't made it big – but deserves a shot? Tell them that the search is on for the best 10 unsigned bands – original or cover – for “Singed”, a new independent feature movie being filmed this summer.
Press Release (PressBurner) Mar 18, 2009 - Do you know a great unsigned band that hasn't made it big – but deserves a shot? Tell them that the search is on for the best unsigned bands – original or cover – for “Singed”, a new independent feature movie being filmed this summer [2009] in northern Illinois. 10 groups will make it onto the CD soundtrack and in the film. The film is slated for a 2010 release in limited theatrical and DVD release.
“It's a rare opportunity to get exposure as well as to sell their version online and to have it on an album of their own,” Homefield Multimedia music scout Mike Pace said. “The submission does not cost the band anything.”
The process? Bands submit a demo package and the Homefield staff will make its search by listening to entries. Packets should be postmarked by midnight August 6, 2009. To submit, bands are encouraged to submit three (3) non-returnable copies of a CD studio-quality demos. To hear the original tracks, visit http://www.homefieldmultimedia.com/.
The songs stem from THE EYEWITNESS, a new CD by D.L. Shiloh and The Singed that has over 30 tracks. It's based on a poetry book of the same name by Shiloh. THE EYEWITNESS is a sci-fi CD and poetry book project about the aftermath of World War III. Guitarists Art Turner and Laverne J. Pink collaborated with Shiloh on the music.
Shiloh knows the struggles of a band, which is seen in the film “Singed.” “We were a struggling band – and we know the hard road to glory local bands make. It's part of what the movie is about. We know great unknown bands are out there. Some won't make it, not because of any difference in talent, but because they didn't get the break. We want to give 10 bands a boost by being on our soundtrack. It's simply the way it should be.”
“I've been a huge fan of various styles and this is a nod to all of them,” Shiloh added. “In the original vision, I wanted a Live-8 type of concert with great all-time artists covering the songs in a rock and roll version that Orson Welles' might've cooked up.”
Tracks, with their musical influences and genres, are included here only as a guide to bands and fans:
“Hurricane” (Rolling Stones),
“The Nostradamus Shake” (Alice Cooper/shock rock)
“Radio Waves” (Thomas Dolby/Techno/James Brown/R&B)
“Under the Cloud” (Jerry Lee Lewis/rockabilly)
“She Said No” (70's folk)
“Underground” (Pink Floyd/stadium art rock)
“Ride the Shockwave” (Dick Dale-type surf)
“After the War” (Bruce Springsteen/rock anthem)
“The Ropes” (Tom Waits/cabaret)
“His Guardian Angel” (B.B. King/blues)
Full details are at the Homefield web site, but bands interested in auditioning for the soundtrack should be aware that 1) there is no cost, 2) submit three (3) copies of a CD studio quality demos with lyrics, and download a PDF form named “Soundtrack Submission Form 1-U.S. version” from the Homefield site. Bands will be expected to co-produce the cover recording themselves but will be slated to earn royalties off their individual recording. The “Singed” soundtrack will be on such vendors as iTunes.
All documents must be filled out fully and properly. “Dotting the i's and crossing the t's, as they say, shows us your professionalism and willingness to be a part of this,” Shiloh mentioned. “Not only your sake but ours. It shows you want it.”
